Euro-ELECS 2015 conference

Euro-ELECS 2015 is the first Latin-American and European Conference on Sustainable Buildings and Communities. It will be held in Guimarães, Portugal, from the 21st to the 23rd of July 2015.

This event is the evolution of several previous ELECS (Encontro Latinoamericano sobre Edificações e Comunidades Sustentáveis) held on 1997, 2001, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013.

Euro-ELECS 2015 is an innovative scientific event that aims to bridge the gap between the academic environment, society, theory and practice connecting European countries and the countries of Latin America.

For this reason, in addition to the scientific content organized by prominent world researchers, the programme will include activities like workshops, technical visits and the presentation of practical experiences in association with industrial partners.

Conference Topics:

- Innovation and improvement of construction materials or systems (low and high tech solutions);

- Design solutions (low cost, reuse, eco efficiency, renovation, retrofitting, urban renovation);

- Building technologies management;

- Technical knowledge transfer for materials, buildings, neighborhoods and building sector;

- Policies and strategies in building or city scale;

- Empowerment and participation processes for sustainability;

IDES-EDU project

The IDES-EDU project educates, trains and delivers specialists, both students and professionals, in Integral Sustainable Energy Design of the Built Environment.

IDES-EDU offers:

- Curricula and training programs (master courses and post graduate courses), including new methods of teaching that will equip students and professionals to work within a multidisciplinary and interdependent problem-solving framework

- Exchange and collaboration between the students and professionals, involved in these courses to come to a mutual exchange of experience, approach and understanding;

- Certification and accreditation of the courses on national level as well frameworks for European certification for participants and for buildings designed in multidisciplinary teams;

- An intelligent dynamical and adaptive multimedia teaching portal to make the educational packages available to graduate students and building professionals in Europe at large;

- Increasing European awareness, promoting implementation and commitment on Integral Sustainable Energy Design by promotional campaigns in the building sector as well as by exchange programmes between universities;

In IDES-EDU 15 universities will develop these curricula and training programmes for MSc students and Professionals within a European framework (educational packages can be downloaded here). The courses will be further elaborated and implemented within national consortia in which educational institutes will collaborate with relevant key actors and stakeholders, such as representatives and/or branch organisations of the building sector (constructors, real estate developers, architects, building research institutes, utilities, suppliers, consultants) and accrediting bodies.

All EU member states will be addressed in this action by the university exchange programme, potentially involving  universities in all member states, starting from the 3rd year of the project.

The European building sector is at this moment not able to offer an integral solution for deep renovation toward nearly Zero Energy Building (nZEB) for reasonable costs.

MORE-CONNECT tries to solve this problem by developing prefabricated, multifunctional renovation elements for the total building envelope (façade and roof) and building services. These elements can be combined, selected and configured by the end-user, based on his specific needs. This information can be used as input into advanced Building Information Modelling systems to control and steer the further production process of these elements. In this way unique series of one can be made in a mass production process for the same reduced price of mass production.

The projects contains different stages, one of the stages is the application, testing and monitoring the products (modular multifunctional renovation elements) in five pilot projects and in two real life learning lab environments, in the five geo-clusters addressed. The testing and demonstration in practice will be organised on six locations:

- The Netherlands;

- Latvia;

- Estonia;

- Denmark;

- Czech Republic;

- Portugal.
